Vinyl VI: Locked Groove - Guidelines

VINYL VI: Locked Groove is a material-driven exhibition centered on the vinyl record as object and surface. Artists are invited to work directly on the record itself, engaging the format with intention and restraint.

Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting work.

Eligibility & Medium

  • Work must be created directly on a vinyl record (12-inch LP)

  • The vinyl record itself is the artwork

  • Only standard 12-inch vinyl records are permitted

  • 7-inch, 10-inch, or other vinyl formats are not allowed

  • No framed works will be accepted

  • No additional substrates (canvas, panel, etc.) may replace the record

  • Wall-hung presentation only (handled by the gallery)

  • No sculpture, pedestal work, or floor-based pieces

Artwork Requirements

  • Artists must work within the existing 12 × 12 inch album format

  • Work must not extend beyond the dimensions of the record

  • Surface buildup is permitted, including impasto, paint buildup, and attached elements

    • Works may include light relief (paint buildup, small objects)

    • Work must remain wall-stable and must not interfere with center-mount installation

  • The original center label must remain fully visible and intact

    • Painting, covering, or altering the label is not permitted

    • Any work that obscures or alters the label will not be included in the exhibition

  • Artists are strongly encouraged to include the original album sleeve with the work (if available)

    • When provided, the sleeve will accompany the work upon sale

Installation Method (Important)

  • The gallery will handle all installation

  • Works MUST NOT include any hanging hardware

  • Do not attach wire, D-rings, sawtooth hangers, or any mounting devices

  • All works will be installed using a center-mount method through the record hole

Any work submitted with hardware attached will require removal prior to installation or will not be exhibited.

Submission Limits

  • One (1) work per artist

  • Due to the scale of participation and space limitations, only one piece per artist will be accepted.

Work Eligibility

  • Only new work will be accepted

  • Previously exhibited works from past VINYL exhibitions are not eligible
