Vivid Lucidity III - Guidelines

Vivid Lucidity III is a focused exhibition of self-portraiture. This show is not about metaphorical stand-ins or symbolic substitutions—it is about the artist confronting themselves directly through image, form, and presence.

Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting work.

Eligibility & Medium

  • Wall-hung work only

    • No sculpture, pedestal work, or floor-based pieces

  • All work must be ready to hang

    • Acceptable hardware includes: wire, sawtooth hanger, D-rings, or French cleat

    • No loose frames, temporary solutions, or installation-dependent requirements

  • No photography

    • Photography in any form (digital, analog, manipulated, printed, or transferred) will not be accepted

    • This exhibition is limited to non-photographic, hand-made or materially constructed works only

Subject Matter

  • Works must be self-portraits

    • This is meant in a traditional and direct sense

    • The artist must depict themselves

    • Metaphorical substitutions are not acceptable
(e.g., a bowl of fruit, an empty room, an animal, or an abstract composition described as “the self” will not be considered a self-portrait for this exhibition)

Interpretation, distortion, psychological framing, and stylistic experimentation are welcome—but the subject must remain the artist.

Size Requirements

  • Maximum size of the artwork itself: 18 × 18 inches

    • The image or constructed surface may not exceed 18 × 18 inches

    • Frames may extend beyond this size, but should remain modest and wall-appropriate

  • All works—single or multi-part—must fit entirely within an 18 × 18 inch maximum overall footprint

  • Depth is permitted, including assemblage or raised elements, provided the work remains wall-hung and does not require a pedestal, shelf, or floor support

This size constraint is intentional and designed to encourage intimacy, restraint, and visual cohesion across the exhibition.

Submission Limits

  • One (1) work per artist

  • A work may consist of multiple panels, or a small grouping of components, provided they are conceived as a single unified piece and fit within the 18 × 18 inch maximum overall footprint

  • Multi-panel or grouped works are considered one entry, not multiple submissions

Work Date

  • New work is strongly preferred

  • Works created in 2025 that meet all exhibition requirements will be accepted

Submission Form (Required)

  • Participating artists will be provided with a Google Form submission link

  • This form must be completed no later than the artwork drop-off dates

  • The form will collect:

    • Sale price

    • Artist’s Venmo handle (required for sales processing)

Failure to complete the form by the deadline may delay installation or prevent the work from being offered for sale.
