Moments Out West presents a collection of photographs by Bretagne Isler made during travels across the American landscape.

Isler's photography career frequently carried her away from home to document couples, relationships, and celebrations in some of the country's most striking environments. Between those assignments were other moments: unfamiliar terrain, changing weather, distant mountains, desert vegetation, forests disappearing into mist, and the monumental surfaces of ice and stone.

Moments Out West turns the camera toward those surroundings.

Moving from the dense vertical rhythms of Between the Cacti to the pale expanse of Hubbard Glacier, the solitude of Joshuas Tree, and the atmospheric depth of Forest Mist, the photographs reveal an attention to both scale and intimacy. Monumental landscapes coexist with small details, each approached as something briefly encountered and worth preserving.

The series also reflects an instinct central to Isler's photographic practice: noticing what happens between anticipated moments. Rather than presenting a comprehensive record of a particular destination, these photographs function as fragments of experience—places encountered while moving through the world for another purpose.

Removed from the people and love stories Isler originally traveled to photograph, the landscapes become their own kind of memory. Together, they form a visual record of being somewhere unfamiliar, looking closely, and taking a moment home.
