Fixations & Fascinations is a solo exhibition by Rob McRae presented by The Artifice in Atlanta, GA.
Bringing together relief prints, collage, assemblage, and mixed-media sculpture, the exhibition surveys McRae's experimentation with process, repeated forms, found materials, and familiar objects transformed into something unexpected.
The exhibition also marked the conclusion of nearly five years of McRae's involvement as an artist and collaborator with The Artifice.

Fixations & Fascinations brings together the varied materials, processes, and recurring curiosities that shaped Rob McRae's practice during his years with The Artifice.
Moving between relief printmaking, collage, assemblage, and mixed-media sculpture, McRae approaches familiar objects as material for transformation. Nails bend into improbable forms. Utensils become strange studies of function and distortion. Anatomical hearts collide with warning signs, circuitry, hardware, and industrial surfaces. Across the exhibition, recognizable things retain enough of their original identity to remain familiar while being pushed toward something unexpected.
That interest extends to the materials themselves. McRae's prints emphasize bold composition, repeated forms, and the physical qualities of the printing process, often incorporating recycled and repurposed papers. His sculptural works similarly assemble found and fabricated elements into objects that can feel mechanical, anatomical, humorous, or unsettling—sometimes several of those things at once.
The exhibition also marked a transition. After approximately five years as a contributing artist with The Artifice, and later helping co-curate its exhibitions, McRae was preparing to move on to other endeavors.
Fixations & Fascinations consequently served as both a survey and a farewell: a gathering of the objects, processes, experiments, and persistent interests that defined this period of his work.
