Website_icon.png

Magda Dumitrescu is a multidisciplinary artist, anthropologist, and educator whose work bridges visual storytelling, folklore, community research, and public engagement through murals, zines, collage, animation, and installation. Originally from Atlanta and now based in Chicago, Dumitrescu creates projects that blend Southern and Eastern European cultural influences with contemporary social narratives and everyday lived experience.

Working at the intersection of art and anthropology, Dumitrescu approaches creative practice as a form of cultural documentation and modern folklore-building. Her projects frequently center on hyperlocal histories, civic systems, community memory, and overlooked aspects of daily life, transforming research-driven subjects into accessible and visually engaging forms.

Dumitrescu holds dual degrees in Anthropology and Studio Art from Georgia State University and a Master’s degree in Museum and Exhibition Studies from University of Illinois Chicago. Alongside her visual art practice, she has remained deeply involved in collaborative community arts, independent publishing, and interdisciplinary cultural projects that emphasize storytelling, participation, and collective imagination.
