Kim Shockley Karelson is an Atlanta-based visual artist whose vibrant abstract expressionist paintings and mixed-media works explore color, movement, geometry, and the emotional resonance of nature. Originally known for large-scale landscapes of the southeastern United States, Karelson later evolved her practice toward abstraction, developing a dynamic visual language rooted in gesture, botanical influence, and layered material experimentation.

A graduate of the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, Karelson frequently combines bold geometric structures with organic forms, drawing inspiration from nature, mid-century aesthetics, and expressive color relationships. Her process incorporates techniques including oil painting, mixed media, and ice dyeing on canvas and wood, creating richly textured surfaces filled with energy and atmosphere.

Based in Atlanta, Karelson’s work is represented by Mason Fine Art and is included in numerous private and corporate collections, including placements with King & Spalding, Omni International, and the collection of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush.
