Dana SanMar
Atlanta, GA
Dana SanMar is a Colombian illustrator and graphic designer based in Atlanta whose work blends handcrafted process, digital illustration, and nature-inspired imagery through a richly decorative visual language. Influenced from an early age by literature, craft, and material experimentation, SanMar creates detailed compositions rooted in storytelling, symbolism, and organic form.
Working primarily through cut paper techniques and digital painting, her illustrations draw inspiration from the natural world as well as historical movements including Art Nouveau, the Arts and Crafts Movement, and Surrealism. Her work balances precision and imagination, combining tactile craftsmanship with contemporary illustration practices.
After earning a BFA in Graphic Design in Colombia and working professionally in design, SanMar later completed an MFA in Illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has received recognition from international illustration and design institutions, and she continues to develop a freelance practice centered on visual storytelling, material sensitivity, and intricate handmade aesthetics.
