Adam Smith is a documentary photographer whose work chronicles the music, culture, and landscape of the American South with striking intimacy and emotional depth. Born in Macon, Georgia, Smith is internationally recognized for his iconic photographs of North Mississippi Hill Country and Delta blues musicians, including Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Othar Turner, and T-Model Ford.
Known for his rich tonal compositions, dramatic shadows, and humanistic approach, Smith captures both legendary musicians and the environments that shaped them—juke joints, rural roads, churches, and overlooked Southern spaces. His work has appeared on album covers, in publications, galleries, and permanent collections, including collaborations with Fat Possum Records and projects connected to artists such as Marty Stuart, Jason Isbell, and Drive-By Truckers.
Through photography, exhibitions, and multimedia projects, Smith continues to preserve and celebrate the enduring spirit of Southern music culture and its living history.
